Here at Milk + Bookies, we are ALL about teaching kids to give back. We believe that if you can get kids to experience the amazing feeling of helping others while they’re young, they’ll be helpers for life! But we also know how difficult it can be to actually make this happen. That’s why Milk + Bookies founder/executive director Meredith Alexander has put together a list of 10 Ways to Teach Kids About Giving Back for the website beso.com. This list has just a few ways that you can teach kids about giving back. But whether you try one of the suggestions on the list or come up with your own ideas, we hope you do everything you can to help your child become a giver for life!
Today, we wanted to highlight an awesome cause we just found out about here at Milk + Bookies. If you haven’t heard of 12 year old Morgan, of “Morgan Makes Her Mark” fame, then get ready to be BLOWN AWAY by her awesome heart for giving! Morgan’s wish is that every sick child and teen at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles would have a new book to read each day. And she’s not just sitting around wishing- she’s making it happen. Morgan works hard making adorable, creative bookmarks (check them out here) that she sells to raise money for the Literally Healing Program at the hospital. Literally Healing, which uses books to lift the spirits of patients and their families, provides free books for sick children and teens in the hospital. This little girl is giving back, and helping young people get more access to books- we DEFINITELY believe in Morgan’s cause! Her passion for reading and giving is so inspiring. In her own words- “Through reading…comes healing.”
If you’d like to learn more about Morgan, or support her cause by donating or buying a bookmark, check out her website here!
That’s right- the children’s book Sweet Pete, by Milk + Bookies founder Meredith Alexander, is now available on Amazon as a Kindle book! This adorable tale, illustrated by Kerry Meyer, follows a day in the life of Pete the dog to show kids the joys of helping others. Not only is this book ALL ABOUT introducing kids to the love of books and philanthropy (just like Milk + Bookies!), but the proceeds from each purchase also go towards supporting what Milk + Bookies does to accomplish these things every day!
Check out the new Kindle version on Amazon here! AND it’s only $2.99 (that’s less than some game applications cost)- so whip out those iPads, and introduce your kids to the love of reading and learning through “Sweet Pete”!
We’re on a campaign to reach 2,500 likes on Facebook- and you can help! Visit our page at facebook.com/MilkandBookies, Like, and Share with your friends! Once we reach 2,500 Facebook likes, we’ll donate $450 of necessities to a local neonatal care unit. Help us give back to our community, while spreading the love of literacy and philanthropy to kids everywhere!
