LITERACY

Children need books to learn to read and thrive, yet many children living in our communities lack sufficient books in their schools and home to develop their reading skills. Research overwhelmingly shows that a lack of access to books reduces academic achievement and leads to higher dropout rates and poverty.

SERVICE LEARNING

Studies have shown that early involvement in community service creates the foundation for a lifetime of leadership and civic-mindedness.

COMMUNITY BUILDING

Leaders+Readers student volunteers learn the power of community ser-vice through donating their gently-used children’s books to Los Angeles’ children in desperate need of books. Along the way, Leaders+Readers Book Drives create young community leaders, give new life to unused Books, and bring together children from different socioeconomic backgrounds to share in the joy of reading through our buddy program.
