The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Recap!

We had SO MUCH FUN at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on September 24th! A HUGE thank you to The Grove and everyone who came out for an afternoon of crafts, snacks, balloons, face painting, and – of course – story time!

Many thanks to Teak & Lace for the beautiful decorations, Magic Characters for bringing The Mad Hatter and Alice to life, Clementine for the delicious goodies, Pottery Barn Kids for supplying the tea party sets, Elizabeth and James for generously donating a portion of profits to the event, and the lovely Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) for coming out to read stories to us!

“I could tell you my adventures — beginning from this morning, but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”

“Yes, that’s it! It’s always tea time.”

“And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversation?”

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense; nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it wasn’t.”

“I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, Sir, because I’m not myself you see.”

“You’re entirely bonkers. But I will tell you a secret: all the best people are.”

“Everything’s got a moral, if only you can find it.”

“Alice had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible.”

See you all next time in Wonderland!

The folks at Madewell were able to raise over 42 books which will be donated to Olive Crest, an organization focused on preventing and treating child abuse in Orange County.tumblr_m2ucafR1PO1qzdg78image001

Book-Raiser Spotlight: Activity Day Girls

This week, our book-raiser spotlight takes us to Tennessee where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ Activity Day Girls hosted a book-raiser to benefit Safe Haven Family Shelter. Led by Chantelle Duncan and Theresa Cram, this group of 11 girls had the perfect combination of books, milk, and cookies for a successful book-raiser!

The Activity Day Girls are…

Katie Duncan, Julianna Coleman, Mallory Voyles,
Lauren Rich, Ashley Smith, Cannon Smith, Rachel Clark,
Emme Haslam, Ashlyn Edgeworth, Kate Jones,
and Isabell Williamson

Number of Kids Participated: 12!

Total Books Raised: 99!

Safe Haven Family Shelter “empowers Middle Tennessee homeless families with children to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.” Safe Haven is one of the only shelters of its kind in Middle Tennessee that accepts entire homeless families and provides comprehensive services to help families achieve secure housing, stable employment, and self-sufficiency.

YOU could be our next book-raiser spotlight! Book-raisers are a great way to create service learning opportunities for children and young adults while collecting books for your LOCAL community! There are so many fun ways to host a book-raiser, it can be anything from a class project to a birthday party. Start by ordering your Bookies Box, start planning your event, and we will help connect you to a school or organization in your area in need of books.

We are so excited to hear about the success of these #FUTUREPHILANTHROPISTS and can’t wait to see where their love for reading and giving takes them!
