We had SO MUCH FUN at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on September 24th! A HUGE thank you to The Grove and everyone who came out for an afternoon of crafts, snacks, balloons, face painting, and – of course – story time!

This week’s Book-Raiser Spotlight goes to our friends at Madewell!
The amazing team at Madewell put together a stellar Milk + Bookies book-raiser at their Costa Mesa / South Coast Plaza store on May 29th. They provided guests with champagne and delicious cookies from Milk Jar to enjoy and, for everyone who brought in books, they received 20% off a purchase of $125+ AND a free Madewell tote! The folks at Madewell were able to raise over 42 books which will be donated to Olive Crest, an organization focused on preventing and treating child abuse in Orange County.

Another Story Time Celebration has come and gone, and, as always, we are so THANKFUL to everyone (celebrities, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and guests!) that came out to support our cause and make this day a HUGE success!
We owe it ALL TO YOU!
“This event is a SUPER BLOW OUT version of the “host your own” book-raiser. We provide books on-site from which children choose, inscribe and donate to a pre-chosen recipient. We have arts & crafts all made from recycled book pages, costumed characters from your favorite classic tales plus a celebrity story time and yummy treats!”
It was great to see everyone gathered together at the
California Market Center and spend a few magical hours with us. We were able to donate over 3,000 books to support our summer reading program at Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Los Angeles with the help of our friends at Discover Books!
We would like to take this opportunity to recap some of our favorite moments from our special event!
This year we had amazing celebrity readers John Cho, B.J Novak, Lena Headey, Tamara Mowry, Dave Koechner, Miranda Cosgrove, Jay Mohr, and Henry Winkler! The Story Time lounge was full of your favorite celebs like Julie Bowen, Selma Blair, Dan Bucatinsky, Charlie Day & Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Justin Baldoni, Busy Philipps and MANY more! Thank you to everyone that came out to support us!
The wonderful Magic Characters brought fairytales to life! The kids were so happy to be around their favorite storybook characters and made sure to capture the magical moment. We want to thank our friends Tinkerbell, Robin Hood, Captain Hook, Waldo, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Willy Wonka, Max from ‘Where the Wild Things Are,’ and Little Red Riding Hood!
Our volunteers enjoyed a hot brunch provided by Bru’s Wiffle and our guests enjoyed delicious treats from our food sponsors Krispy Kreme, CookieGoodLA, Cheebo, Stuft Cookie, Bakeology, Ralphs, California Pizza Kitchen, McConnell’s Ice Cream, 1915 Juices- Bolthouse Farms, The Albright/Cast Iron Catering, and Organic Kids LA!

One of the highlights from our Story Time Celebration, and the most talked about, are our unique decorations found all around the event! A house, flowers, animals, and floating clouds with our recipient organizations names all made out of recycled book pages! We owe these beauties to our AMAZING design team at Dutch + Finn!
Our crafts corner was a HUGE hit with all the kids! From decorating their own fairy tale wings to making their own Milk + Bookies bookmark, they let their creative minds run wild! A HUGE thank you to our longtime Creative Director and crafting genius, Courtney Collins from little junebugs!

20 Gap Kids stores across 18 cities in the U.S. and Canada hosted a day of fun with a cozy reading area, photo opportunities with Mr. Gap and Little Miss Gap, a coloring station, and of course…COOKIES!
At each location, a local mommy blogger joined the fun and hosted a reading of the Mr. Men Little Miss books. Everyone was encouraged to join in and bring books to donate! Each store collected gently used books to benefit a local Boys & Girls Club in their community!

This week, our book-raiser spotlight takes us to Tennessee where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ Activity Day Girls hosted a book-raiser to benefit Safe Haven Family Shelter. Led by Chantelle Duncan and Theresa Cram, this group of 11 girls had the perfect combination of books, milk, and cookies for a successful book-raiser!

Safe Haven Family Shelter “empowers Middle Tennessee homeless families with children to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.” Safe Haven is one of the only shelters of its kind in Middle Tennessee that accepts entire homeless families and provides comprehensive services to help families achieve secure housing, stable employment, and self-sufficiency.

The Bristol Early Childhood Alliance works to ensure “every single child in Bristol is healthy and ready to learn by age five, and achieves developmental and school success by age nine.” The Appetite for Reading program has set up bookshelves across the city with free books to help to increase the access to reading material for the children in the Bristol area. The books donated by the American Clock and Watch Museum was enough to stock 10 bookshelves for the program!

On Friday, September 18th, the staff of the Harvard Extension School in Cambridge, Massachusetts hosted their own Milk + Bookies book-raiser. The event was a huge success and the staff members collected hundreds of books, almost doubling their goal! Many of the donated books were hand-picked by the staff and their children. As a bonus, everyone enjoyed ice cream and cookie sandwiches from The Cookie Monstah food truck…YUM!
