In 2004, Maire Byrne opened Thyme Catering where she quickly found success in creating New American food to enhance unforgettable moments throughout Southern California. The popularity of Thyme Catering led her to expand the company and launch her first cafe and gourmet marketplace, Thyme Café & Market.

Located conveniently on Ocean Park Boulevard right here in Santa Monica, Thyme Café & Market offers tasty “New American” food and drink that is a MUST VISIT for their warm, charming, and communal environment. Perfect for catching up with friends and family!

Maire Byrne is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and went on to work with culinary luminaries at various acclaimed restaurants in the United States, including Chez Panisse in Berkeley, The Ajax Tavern in Aspen, and Aqua in San Francisco.

Her passion for travel led her to live and work throughout Europe, New York and San Francisco. Each experience has greatly in influenced her culinary point of view and strengthened her belief that good food draws people together and creates memories.

Be sure to check out Thyme Café & Market’s delicious selections or even hire them to cater your next event! You won’t regret it!

Also, visit Thyme’s sister restaurant (a favorite for date night), LOCAL KITCHEN & WINE BAR, and don’t forget about the best toy store in Sunset Park, Quinnie & B – both are members of the Thyme family.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Recap!

We had SO MUCH FUN at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on September 24th! A HUGE thank you to The Grove and everyone who came out for an afternoon of crafts, snacks, balloons, face painting, and – of course – story time!

Many thanks to Teak & Lace for the beautiful decorations, Magic Characters for bringing The Mad Hatter and Alice to life, Clementine for the delicious goodies, Pottery Barn Kids for supplying the tea party sets, Elizabeth and James for generously donating a portion of profits to the event, and the lovely Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) for coming out to read stories to us!

“I could tell you my adventures — beginning from this morning, but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”

“Yes, that’s it! It’s always tea time.”

“And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversation?”

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense; nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it wasn’t.”

“I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, Sir, because I’m not myself you see.”

“You’re entirely bonkers. But I will tell you a secret: all the best people are.”

“Everything’s got a moral, if only you can find it.”

“Alice had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible.”

See you all next time in Wonderland!

Madewell Gives Back with Milk + Bookies

This week’s Book-Raiser Spotlight goes to our friends at Madewell!

The amazing team at Madewell put together a stellar Milk + Bookies book-raiser at their Costa Mesa / South Coast Plaza store on May 29th. They provided guests with champagne and delicious cookies from Milk Jar to enjoy and, for everyone who brought in books, they received 20% off a purchase of $125+ AND a free Madewell tote! The folks at Madewell were able to raise over 42 books which will be donated to Olive Crest, an organization focused on preventing and treating child abuse in Orange County.tumblr_m2ucafR1PO1qzdg78image001

We are so happy to have partnered with Madewell to give so many fantastic books to kids who need them most! Hooray For Bru’s Wiffle!

brusWiffleAndMore_tShirtBreakfast is the most important meal of the day, and no one does it quite like the folks at Bru’s Wiffle. Our love for their amazing waffle creations runs deep! With so many incredible options, like the Churro Waffle topped with cinnamon ice cream, how can anyone order just one (we certainly can’t!)?

Chocolate Waffle Party is the breakfast of champions! via

If you’re feeling especially adventurous, take a bite out of the Chocolate Waffle Party, a chocolate Belgian waffle stuffed with fresh butter cream and topped with Oreos and chocolate sauce! In addition to they’re famous waffles, Bru’s Wiffle offers a hearty selection of lunch and dinner options guaranteed to keep your hungry tummies satisfied all day!

All of us at Milk + Bookies would like to offer a special thanks to Bru’s Wiffle for supplying an amazing breakfast for our volunteer staff at the 7th Annual Story Time Celebration!

Have a Snack with Annie’s Homegrown!

White Cheddar Deliciousness

Shells & White Cheddar Deliciousness

When in need of a nutritious snack, Annie’s Homegrown Macaroni & Cheese puts the “eesy” in cheesy~ really. Boil water. Release the pasta. Drain. Add milk+sauce. Voila~ A quick, hot snack that is laden with calcium and protein!

A 10 minute recipe to achieve 10/10 on hunger satisfaction!!

For our Leaders+Readers program, we turn to Annie’s Homegrown for all of our snack needs! Leaders+Readers is our school-to-school book drive program and on the momentous Book Drop-Off Day (after many hours of sweat, toil, and anticipation), donor and recipient schools finally meet and interact. Students from each school pair up, pick a book to read together, and share Friends Bunny Graham Snacks!

Annie’s Homegrown has generously provided all of our snacks for this academic school year’s Leaders+Readers program and we could not be more grateful!! These Book Drop-Off Days are momentous occasions not only because of the transfer of books to schools in need, but also because they provide an opportunity for children of diverse backgrounds to come together and bond over literacy…and snacks! Anything can be a starting point for a conversation and friendship, and just as Annie’s Friends Bunny Graham snacks include a variety of bunnies like Honey, Chocolate, and Chocolate Chip, we believe our children’s lives are further enriched by inclusive engagement with others.

We at Milk + Bookies are also excited about Annie’s new Organic Mac & Trees because it further underscores their commitment to ensuring the world continues to be a great place for our children. The pasta shapes are “Love Your Planet” themed and come in recycling symbols, bikes, trees, and planets! What a fun way to get kids to learn about the importance of being mindful of the environment!  What’s more–every purchase goes towards funding school gardens.

Organic Mac & Trees definitely deserves Bernie’s Rabbit of Approval Seal!

Happy snacking! :)
