Fundraising Spotlight: Normal Community West High School

Today, we want to shine our Spotlight on a particularly awesome group of teens:

Normal Community West High School!

Despite being all the way in Normal, IL, their philanthropic spirit is anything but “normal”. Krista, President of NCWHS’s National English Honors Society Chapter, reached out to Milk+Bookies back in March wanting to host a very unique fundraiser to benefit us!

Check it out:

Krista and her 70+ membered Honor Society collected hundreds of dollars in donations from their classmates in giant milk jugs to benefit M+B and impact their local community. In addition to (fun)drasing projects, Krista’s chapter of the Honors Society writes letters to second graders in their school district as a part of a pen pal program.

Such an amazing (and creative!) way to give back!

Way to go, Normal Community West High!

Taste the Future with Ripple Foods – It’s Delicious!

If you’ve been to a grocery store in the last several years, you know that when it comes to milk, there’s a TON of options. However, you may or may not have heard of the latest (and potentially greatest) option to hit shelves – pea milk…yes, milk made from peas.

Our friends and partners for our 8th Annual Story Time Celebration at Ripple Foods have worked tirelessly to bring together the best of all the milk worlds – nutrition, eco- friendliness, and, most importantly, taste – into one amazing product! Does pea milk sound a little pea-culiar?

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Consider: Ripple takes 93% less water to produce than dairy milk and 85% less than almond milk. Made from the nutrient rich pea protein, it has 8 grams of protein and is high in calcium and vitamin D.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Ripple‘s milk comes in 4 delicious flavors to choose from: Original, Vanilla, Chocolate (our personal favorite), and Original Unsweetened.

Screen Shot 2017-01-24 at 2.16.04 PM

Founded by Neil Renninger and Adam Lowry (who also created environmentally-minded cleaning supply company Method), Ripple has succeeded in developing a milk that everyone can enjoy. Marching proudly to the beat of its own drummer, Ripple is nut, gluten, & lactose free and is 100% vegan!

Screen Shot 2017-01-24 at 2.13.55 PMYou can even use Ripple as a milk substitute, whether you’re having a simple cup of coffee or a decadent desert!

Ripple is available at many grocery stores AND will be featured at our Milk + Cookies Bar at our 8th Annual Story Time Celebration taking place on Feb. 26, 2017 from 11am-2pm at HD Buttercup in Culver City!

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Recap!

img_7752

We had SO MUCH FUN at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on September 24th! A HUGE thank you to The Grove and everyone who came out for an afternoon of crafts, snacks, balloons, face painting, and – of course – story time!

Many thanks to Teak & Lace for the beautiful decorations, Magic Characters for bringing The Mad Hatter and Alice to life, Clementine for the delicious goodies, Pottery Barn Kids for supplying the tea party sets, Elizabeth and James for generously donating a portion of profits to the event, and the lovely Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) for coming out to read stories to us!

img_0028img_0007enlight1-4

“I could tell you my adventures — beginning from this morning, but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”

img_0170img_0044

“Yes, that’s it! It’s always tea time.”

img_0173img_0147img_0178

“And what is the use of a book without pictures or conversation?”

img_0177img_0142img_0199

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

img_0175img_0079img_7677

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense; nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it wasn’t.”

img_7675img_0071img_0062

“I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, Sir, because I’m not myself you see.”

img_0052enlight1-7img_0064

“You’re entirely bonkers. But I will tell you a secret: all the best people are.”

img_7707enlight1-3

“Everything’s got a moral, if only you can find it.”

img_0037img_0106img_0209

“Alice had begun to think that very few things indeed were really impossible.”

See you all next time in Wonderland!

The folks at Madewell were able to raise over 42 books which will be donated to Olive Crest, an organization focused on preventing and treating child abuse in Orange County.tumblr_m2ucafR1PO1qzdg78image001

TOTAL BOOKS RAISED: 42

We Love Warner Bros.!

WBTV_Logo_ColorWith summer quickly approaching, all of us here at Milk + Bookies are sad to see some of our favorite television shows wrapping up for the season. A great number of these shows are brought to us by one of our very own sponsors, Warner Bros. Television! Warner Bros. Television produces and distributes programming to major networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS, TNT, FOX, and The CW, as well as HBO, Netflix, and Hulu.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

An all-around favorite of just about everyone in the office is The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, a young-adult fantasy drama about a girl who has to choose between two vampire brothers and the chaos that ensues. Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries just ended and we CAN NOT wait for new episodes! If you’re not caught up, don’t worry, you can stream the latest five episodes on cwtv.com or binge watch up to season 6 on Netflix!

A new Warner Bros. Television hit is Netflix’s Fuller House, a reboot of the popular 90s sitcom Full House. DJ is all grown up with kids of her own and has to readjust to life after the loss of her husband with the help of her friends and family. People of all ages love the show, from young families to millennials who grew up watching the original! If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out exclusively on Netflix now!

Hooray For Bru’s Wiffle!

brusWiffleAndMore_tShirtBreakfast is the most important meal of the day, and no one does it quite like the folks at Bru’s Wiffle. Our love for their amazing waffle creations runs deep! With so many incredible options, like the Churro Waffle topped with cinnamon ice cream, how can anyone order just one (we certainly can’t!)?
